Some of my fondest gaming memories are rooted in the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise.
Its unique blend of map exploration, strategic resource gathering, town building tech trees, and turn-based tactical battles has aged like fine wine.
With its beautiful 2D art style and legendary musical score, we're talking about one of the few true masterpieces out there.
Best of all, the complete original game, soundtrack, and the awesome Horn of the Abyss mod are sold right here on GOG at a very fair price, running like a charm on practically any hardware configuration you throw at it.
That is why demanding a generic, mobile-looking 3D remake is nostalgic nonsense. All it does is justify an inflated price tag while opening the door to malicious publisher practices. We’ve already watched this disastrous script play out through the entire lifecycle of Warcraft 3: Reforged, right up to recent updates stripping away native LAN and offline play from a classic game that worked fine for twenty years.
If people want to support the future of the franchise, they should put their weight behind Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era—the genuinely creative effort that sparked this whole resurgence in the first place. The original Heroes III is already complete, working, and immortal on GOG. Let's keep our focus on preserving what actually works.
