Wolfenstein (2009)

by Raven Software, Activision
Platforms:
PC (Microsoft Windows), Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Genres:Shooter
Themes:Open world, Action, Fantasy, Historical, Science fiction, Stealth
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:
Wolfenstein is the direct sequel to Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Spear of Destiny/Wolfenstein RPG. It featured a "re-imagined" disguised dark-haired B.J. Blazkowicz, retaining the unshaven look seen in Return to Castle Wolfenstein and dressed in civilian clothes rather than his usual military uniform. The game mainly consists of the player shooting his way through hordes of different types of Nazis, ranging from normal soldier to ninjas. To deal with the large amount of enemies, the player has access to many typical WWII-weapons like the German MP40 or K98 rifle. In addition, during the course of the game he finds the medallion and learns four powers. While at first entering the Veil only allows him so see enemies more clearly and use strange flying creatures as bombs, he is later able to slow down time, surround himself with a protective shield or make himself stronger. However, the medallion's powers drain its energy, which needs to be refilled at power-spots that are nearly invisible in the real world.

This might still be my favorite out of all of the Wolfenstein games, and I love all of them. I still have a physical copy, but the world deserves to still have access to this underrated gem. I loved the upgrade system and the gameplay was rock solid to me. Excellent story that was a nice supernatural followup to Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I feel like this one slid under the radar.mrw874

This is my second favourite game of all time behind Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines. I bought it the year it was released and fell in love with it instantly. Wolfenstein 3D introduced me to the franchise, and Wolfenstein 2009 cemented it as my all time favourite. I love the story, especially how they give us more information on the SS Paranormal Division from RTCW, re-introduce characters from previous games and introduce new characters who would feature in the later games. The whole Thule society and Black Sun dimension aspect was what sealed the deal for me. I really enjoyed how they incorporated that into the game through the Thule medallion and how you could use the veil to do some pretty cool stuff. I also really enjoyed the open world they created between missions. It's fun to just run around and explore, find collectables, and shoot enemies as they appear which helps to keep the excitement level before taking on the next mission so you can play at your own pace. Luckily I still have my game disc, but now that it's 17 years old, I'm scared that it will eventually stop working and I'll have no way of buying a replacement outside of paying extreme prices for another copy, or heaven forbid obtain it illegally. If it were made available on GOG I wouldn't have to worry about any of that. Plus there's a whole generation out there who most likely have never even heard of the game and would love it as much as we do. Please GOG, make this happen!!

This game was really good, it was nicknamed a call of duty clone back in the day. Yes, I'm not saying it was perfect, but it wasn't as bad as people said. I hope it comes back on sale someday.

For me, Wolfenstein (2009) was my introduction to the Wolfenstein Series. Thanks to this game, I have played older titles like Wolfenstein 3D and Return to Castle. I used to play this game on PS3, and what made it fun was the combat and the arsenal that you have. I always loved the idea of the involvement of supernatural stuff and militia. At one point, I had a physical copy of this game (For pc) but lost it. I have always been intrigued to play this game once more to relive the memories.
I remember playing the hell out of this on my 360 back in the day, a gem and a must own for any wolfenstein fan! Also, we got almost every other game in the series out in the market! Why not get this gem as well to complete the collection.
This was my first Wolfenstein game, me and my dad would play it (whenever once of us died or a new section, we swapped). I loved this game and was suprised the occult aspect was more or less just gone from future games (though I recently discovered older games have it, so have been playing around with that.) This game is a gem and deserves revival.
I really love and enjoyed this game back in 2009. The quality of shooting, effects, colours was really a fun mix. Not a revolutionary shooter but Activision never drop this on any platform after PS3, where i play it. I really would play that again, especially with italian localization. Please make my memories back.
I loved this game as a kid and my dad played it, until the disc didnt work anymore, this is one of the best id games ever made and raven software made the best games pls bring it to GOG
This game deserved a second chance and rerelease to the latest platform. Especially, it draw to another game like the Replica Assassin. Veil Assassin is inspiration to that enemy. Can't deny it. Even the one of the member of the former developer admitted.
Classic one that kept the spirit of the of the RtcW aka keeping the supernatural elements and also letting us fight the germans that use the same different soldier like in the RtcW. Also it had great partly open maps, upgrading all weapons and veil powers, a lots of secrets like in the classic Wolfs and of course really nice and fast gameplay loop with simple yet good story, introducing us the Caroline Becker from the New Order and New Colossus. I have a really great and fond memories of playing it a lot back in 2009/2010 and the fact that this game is canon to the modern Wolfenstein franchise and yet its almost lost to history as you can´t buy it anywhere legaly on any modern digital clients is criminal. So bringing it back with the support for the modern devices and windows, maybe even get the multiplayer run again somehow, even with the help of game community, would be really great and a dream come true. This entry in the series needs a proper revival it deserves so if its possible, make it happen GoG. We know you can ;)

Freelancer
FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.
