Description

14th-century Europe. Bloody conflicts sweep the lands, and the Black Death comes for the survivors. It's a moment of weakness - and that's all they needed. Vampires seize their opportunity to walk out of the shadows and claim what they've been denied for centuries: freedom, and the power that comes with it. Other creatures of the night follow their lead. Legends turn into reality, and history as we know it will never be the same.

You play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker, forever treading the line between the world of day and the realm of night. Fight for your humanity or embrace the cursed powers to save your family. Whatever your choice, the question stands: is your soul worth the lives of those you love?

Experience and shape the plot the way you want. Embark on the quest to save your family, or swear revenge on your sire and destroy everyone standing in your way. Discover ancient secrets lurking in the valley. Rush in head first or risk taking time to prepare. Go alone or search for friends and forge unlikely alliances.

Experience two different gameplay loops, offering distinct abilities to choose from, mysteries to uncover, and varying ways to achieve your goals. Experiment with different approaches and discover how the world reacts to your actions.

Every action - and inaction - shapes the world around you. Your family’s days are numbered, and every time you take on a quest, time moves forward, compelling you closer to the end. Choose carefully whom to help and whom to leave behind. You will not have time for everyone. The world waits for no one. And neither does the villain.

Defy gravity, become a brutal force of nature, and use your supernatural skills as a vampire. Or raise your sword, and employ powerful magic to take on opponents as a human. Experiment and adapt as your form changes during the day and night; each has its strengths and weaknesses.

Venture through the hand-crafted open world and discover all it has to offer. Roam through the lush forests, the vast plains, the treacherous swamps, the steep mountaintops, and the medieval settlements. Explore forgotten ruins, find remnants of an ancient civilization, and uncover truths that should probably remain hidden.

Experience the beginning of a brand-new saga built with love for the role-playing genre. Immerse yourself in a visually stunning world powered by the next-gen Unreal Engine 5.

Main game mechanic is annoying

Yay finally a modern vampire games that looks nice. Combat is decent ones you get used to it but still a bit finicky with parry windows and blocks. Occasionally graphical glitches, heavy loads in densely packed areas with npcs but maybe with coming patches they'll get better Story is quite engaging but there lies the main problem with the game for me personaly. Timed main quest and everything consumes time and heavely. Never liked games trying to rush me or punish for doing things at my own pace. Learning skills consume time, breaking a few barrels takes almost as longs as climing a mountain (wtf? really!?) etc. At this point might as well make every step count towards the time passing because because devs want you to play the game 100 times in order to see anything and definetlly never go doing side quests or challenges because guess what they too eat at time mechanic. Novel idea but too heavy handed without options to tweak it.....maybe with mods but that has it's own issues. I might be too harsh on this but thats just like my opinion maaaan. TLDR I'm very biased and don't like what is essentialy the main mechanic. Ticking clock that forces you to skip things that might be interesting becauses thats the game.

Great Story, Mediocre Gameplay

First. the general "jank" is UE5 and not the fault of Rebel Wolves. The world is well built, beautiful and the story is great. Voice acting is top notch too. However.... The time mechanic is a good idea poorly implimented. I'm fine with quests using time. For some reason though, EVERYTHING requires Time. You unlock a fast travel shrine? Costs Time. Use said shrine, costs Time. Level up, skills cost Time. Almost like leveling is a punishment. Some quests have decisions for you to make but, you guessed it, some choices cost Time. Secondly, the directional combat is not good. One on One it's great, but the game rarely has you fighting things one on one. Omniblock is there, but the game penalizes you for using it by burning through your stamina and making attacks do less damage. I did find more than once quest that actually costs more Time than indicated. Possible bug? I think the game would be vastly better if the Time Mechanic ONLY applied to questing. Making nearly everything require it is just the devs trying to force it to be more important than it should be. EDIT: There was a small update and now I've noticed using a shrine to fast travel no longer costs time. So perhaps that was a bug originally, now fixed.

Narrative Trapped Behind mechanics

This presents a frustrating contradiction. Underneath the hood lies a genuinely compelling world with deep lore, rich writing, and an intriguing narrative setup. Unfortunately, actually experiencing that story requires wrestling through some of the most tedious, unrefined combat mechanics in a modern release. For a title carrying an top-tier price tag, the baseline gameplay loop feels thoroughly unpolished. Attacks feel delayed, and often target the wrong target entirtely, and basic movement lacks the crisp responsiveness expected of an action-RPG. Encounters frequently devolve into a chore rather than a test of skill. Instead of challenging encounter design, encounters often rely on clunky camera tracking, lock-on failures, and stilted parry windows that make failure feel cheap rather than fair. The biggest tragedy is that the writing and premise are actually good. But when every story beat is walled off behind long, miserable skirmishes, pushing forward feels like homework. If this were an budget indie title, its mechanical shortcomings might be easier to forgive. But at full price, expecting players to fight the game's controls just to get to the narrative is unacceptable. Unless a series of heavy performance and mechanics patches arrive soon, save your money

Made by W3 dev, no paternity test needed

Feels so much like a Witcher 3 spin-off. UI, gear system, world design, eastern european folklore brought to "life", similar excellent music and great writing that feels both fantastical and very... human, in how people behave and react. If it weren't for occasional mentions of real cities - I'd be convinced that this takes place on another continent of the same world as Witcher. I'm not sold on the whole time limit mechanic, I love messing around exploring and doing random activities too much to enjoy the pressure of ticking clock, but I love the rest of the game enough for it to not be a turn-off. Combat is fun and challenging, the dynamic of vampire by night and witch by day gameplay is great, world is beautiful and gnarly when occasion calls for it, already mentioned music and story above. Performance - can't comment, I'm on 9800x3d + 9070xt. Not an average benchmark rig, even Borderlands 4 runs smooth on this beast. So not accounting for that in my rating. There are a few undercooked mechanics I find issues with tho: 1. Disengaging from combat - running away you're liable to get stuck on invisible obstacles, and generally neither the tools for it, nor AI behaviors are thought through for such an important core mechanic of any open-world game where you're liable to stumble into a fight you can't win. 2. Target aquisition - feels like target lock does nothing, I'm still swinging at whatever target the game decides is the priority at the moment. 3. Stealth takedowns - you CAN feed on unsuspecting victim at night, but they are so rarely alone and it takes so long that 99% of the time you're just gonna get smacked away before taking any significant chunk of health. No lure, no distraction... Why even tease this tech if it's gonna work as bad as this? 4. Excessive gear upgrade prices. You can get a lot of unique Legendary armor that will be scaled to your level upon pickup, and then you get a bunch of levels and it's useless. It shouldn't cost thousands of denarii to keep the unique gear up to par. Thank the community that mod fixing this issue already exists. Hope at least first 2 issues get adressed with upcoming patches. And maybe add variable time to the difficulty settings? I get that it's one of the key design shticks, but the game is great without it, you can trust that the players will enjoy it without this pressure of time limit.

A ton of potential

That it doesn't live up to. The game's setting is gorgeous, the story is interesting, the timing system is a nice incentive to try different things, make meaningful choices, and not be a completionist, and the two different sets of abilities on paper are cool. In practice, the combat is absolute garbage - unfun, repetitive, the directional blocking system is badly implemented, the auto-lock-on infuriatingly stupid - inventory management feels like a chore, the world, while beautiful, feels profoundly empty most of the time, and it just...isn't fun. One of the games I've been most excited about in recent years, and one of the biggest letdowns.
