Let down by the controls

They are just plain awful, otherwise this would be quite a good oldschool shooter. At least it's free!

Strange shoot em up!

Certainly different and stands out from the crowd, but boy does it get kind of stupidly difficult! You'll often be wondering wtf is going on too!

Could have been a lot more!

The developers missed a massive trick by not providing any kind of "skirmish / sandbox" mode where you could play as any of the three factions in the game. They only implemented a linear campaign that EXPONENTIALLY became harder and harder as it went along. They also could have provided a mission/map editor which would have really helped make this game more than it is. The other bugbear is the difficulty. The first quarter of the campaign is all too easy, the second quite challenging but enjoyably so, the third - all of a sudden you CANNOT do these without using at least one cheat, the last quarter..... HURDUR difficulty! You need ALL the cheats all going at once and you'll still struggle and have a frustrating time. It spoils what could have been a great little game - and is maybe why this game never became well known. The bizarre wording of the cutscenes are also just, WHAT? Tom Baker must have been thinking "WTF?" as he read them out!

FAECES!

Take Darkest Dungeon, poo on it, wee on it and then light it, then wee again on the resultant bonfire. Hey presto! "Vambrace Cold Soul"! Cons:- - difficulty through the roof! Even Darkest Dungeon is a cakewalk compared! - no saves, well not for every two or three hours anyway. - some areas have no map, so they're a confusing mess, I couldn't find my way out of "The Ghost Bazaar" map for example - seriously, seriously, SERIOUSLY bad UI - even time limts are enforced, FTL style, like how the rebel fleet would stomp you if you hung around too long - can only camp out in rare locations - traps are STUPID - a lot of background art looks AI generated - Unity analytics! And NO warnings nor options to disable! Pros:- - nope, got me there - oh yeah, I was lucky to get this free. £20 normal price? FO! - anything else? Lyric is quite cute.

Nothing special

That said it's not a waste of time either. Just a very average, simplistic (but the AI is hard) Panzer General like game. If you're familiar with PG you'll soon pick this one up. Graphics are fugly, sounds are basic, music is just soooo gay. The UI is terrible, but you soon get used to it. Some of the five star reviews here are a serious exercise in hyperbole. Especially the so called current "most helpful" one. A wall of hyper-praise that can only be a paid for job! And it has 115 posreps vs ZERO negreps. In fact all the 4 and 5 star reviews, even some totally stupid one-liner jobs are massively posrepped. Now THAT'S suspicious if you ask me, for such a "meh" game!

Taking the mick level difficulty.....

..... but you can freely adjust this to make it easier, or even harder if you are masochistic, without penalty. Just a bit of simple in game file text editing required! So that makes the game when otherwise the difficulty would have broken it. And it is a very good turn based face to face style strategy game! The word on the street is to buy this on Steam instead however!

Would be good if it worked

But GOG peddle an outdated broken version that barely functions and CTDs constantly. Word is the latest version is locked behind the "DRM" that is "GOG Galaxy". But I've not yet tried it out. When I do so I'll amend this review accordingly.

Boring

Reminds me of The Witcher series, but much buggier, emptier and well, boring. And well done "nabetsedeauirs", "urgotbikini" and "rosieposie" for some of the crassest examples of "Steam quality trash reviews" I've seen on GOG yet. Urgotbikini is right about "God is power God is love" (depends which God).... so he's getting a posrep now! And all the negrepping atheists are boohooing just because of the "God" comment!

Not sure what is actually going on

Seems more of an executive toy than a game, only messed with it for a couple of hours but couldn't work out what was really the point and what you are meant to do! I see all the downvoting shts are very active on this review page!
