Might and Magic® 6-pack Limited Edition

Mixed back, but still 5* because...

...it contains the best Might and Magic Games, so it doesn't hurt having the others too. Might and Magic 1 is okay. Its no masterpiece, far from it. Its nice to experience it due to its historical relevance but its insanely monotone. MM1 feels a bit like playing with a spreadsheet. If you like Excel, you'll love that game. Somehow i think this game would have been much better without any graphics at all. Somehow i enjoyed playing Zork much more even though its a Text Adventure. Because this game has graphics, it skips over describing the environment because, you can see it. But everything looks the same. The Tileset has like 5 images or so... i don't know. But its not just the graphics, don't get me wrong. They aged bad but the main reason i dislike that one is the feel of playing with a spreadsheet. MM2 already goes into the right direction. It is still heavily limited by technology but it does one thing that MM1 completely failed, it gives you immersion. Sadly the game is very tedious. It is not as punishing as Wizardry but it demands a lot of work from you for playing it, but gives you very little in reward. MM3 is where the fun begins. The jump from MM1 to MM2 already was big, but the jump to MM3 is insane. Not just is the technology finally there (The Graphics look very nice, the MT-32 sounds modern to this day, control is easy to understand), the game has so much love for detail, everywhere. In the manual, the map, this is the real deal, its fun an addictive to play. MM 4~5 do what MM3 did and just do it better. They elevate it from a very fun and enjoyable game to a masterpiece. From a technical standpoint, they improved everything, the gameplay mechanis is improved to, music too. The only real big downside with MM3~5 is GOG delivers it with an outdated DOSBOX and without MT-32 Support. You have to setup everything yourself, that is a shame. The Game, out of the box, uses the fallback soundblaster sound that is very limited. I mean its better than nothing, but invest the time to setup MT-32 MM6 on the other hand feels like a step back. They managed to make the gameplay less fun, however they managed to do that, but its a shame. The resolution is higher but everything looks brown and gray and fog everywhere, like most games from this era. Just look at the screenshots, MM4 at night has more colors than MM6 at day. Its 3D and has higher resolution, but otherwise the graphics are a big step back. Level design is very questionable too and the end of the game is a slog. Only 4 Characters, no choise for race and less choices for classes... who greenlit this? Its not a bad game, don't get me wrong, but its worse than MM3~5 even though having been released 7 years later than 3. I grew up with non of these games as i am too young but while MM3~5 felt like awesome games you can still play today without issues, MM1~2 and MM6 feel rather outdated. I totallly understand why they included 1~2, its interesting and cool to experience these first hand, i don't understand why they included 6. It feels like a completely different game that doesn't belong to the others. Its like MM1 < MM2 < MM3 < MM4/5 > MM6

Slipstream

Boring

I bought this game because i love Outrun. It has better graphics and the drift mechanics are interesting at first, but this game is simply boring. I finished it and it left no impression on me. If i have 10~15 Minutes of spare time, i still play Outrun, i never touched this game again. Most of the soundtracks don't really fit the game and there are simply too many of them. The graphics are in this uncanny valley of retroesq lookalike. It is hard to describe but the best word is look alike. At fist look it is similar to Outrun, but at closer inspection it simply lacks the heart. This game was not made to be an insanely fun arcade racer, this game was made to look like an Retro game. The music wasn't made to be good music, the music was made to sound chiptune/synthwave/retro. It looks fun, it is not fun to play.

Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection One

All 3 of them are great

First of all, i highly recommend to play this game using DOSBOX-staging and not the bundled DOSBOX. DOSBOX development stopped almost over 6 years ago and has quite some bugs and lacks important features. DOSBOX-staging is a soft-fork that continues the development and added tons of things like pixel-perfect upscaling (So the game is no longer blurry if you play on a screen that is not 320x240) and MT32 Support (Which you can use in Eye of the Beholder 3 and it sounds amazing) That out of the way, i heard that the third one is the weakest one in the series. Maybe i agree but its far from bad and far from not enjoyable. I played all 3 and i have to say i like all 3. The third one is a bit easy and short so i understand that back in the days, if you bought this full price, you were a bit disappointed. But i play this in 2026 and bought all 3 games for less than 10 bucks so there is absolutely nothing to complain. Its a fun experience, just be sure to use (get) a number pad if your keyboard doesn't have one. It makes your life much easier. Oh and of course, RTFM, there is no other way to survive this game.

Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls

Solid and good Wizardry Entry

Many Wizardry fans probably know that Wizardry, since it exists, took a lot of different roots and experiments. The last experiment, Wizardry 8, pretty much killed the franchise... almost. While the west gave up on Wizardry after the debacle that was 8, the Japanese went back from these experiments and focused on the earlier titles that where most liked by the fans. And this is the result. From the visuals, there is no doubt that this is from a Japanese developer, but other then the looks, this is good old Wizardry. Like "The Five Ordeals" this is back to the roots and yes, some people don't like oldshool dungeon crawler so if you don't... you should not buy one. It is not 100% oldshool though. Obviously the graphics are 3D (except the sprites which are 2D which i personally prefer), but it does come with some improvements/quality of life features other modern Dungeon Crawler have too. For example, outside of the Dungeon, you no longer have to walk around the town but can just directly select where you want to go (Basically like in TRPG). It seems like some people dislike that but the game is already very long, that is a good improvement to save you wasting time and, as said, all modern dungeon crawler do this, for a good reason. Also most of the stuff is explained inside the game, you do not have to read a 100 page manual to be able to play the game. So its not 100% authentic but lets be honest, that would be unrealistic to expect. But imho these are rather minor changes, the overall tone and look&feel that made Wizardry famous to begin with is there, just transported in the modern age. Overall it is weaker than "The Five Ordeals", there are no DLC (there is one, but no new), there is no tool to create your own adventures and so on. Its a port of an PS3 game, nothing more, nothing less. If you want more, you have to get Five Ordeals which comes in at a higher price too.
