Ganni1987: Not spending a single penny during this sale, because GOG decided to ruin the new Control release by not offering (or even mentioning) anything about the lack of pre-order exclusive items. They repeated the very same mistake a few weeks ago with the new Silent Hill, and the previous Silent Hill f and a year or so ago with the Indiana Jones game, this list goes on, you get the picture.

For a game that released just over a month ago, this is a kick in the nuts for GOG customers. Yes, it was a nice journey, but I'm done wasting money for a store that doesn't care and doesn't even listen to feedback from their customers.

Breja: I'm sorry if I'm being dense, but what is there to say about the lack of pre-order exclusive items, when you're not pre-ordering the game? It seems quite obvious to me that pre-order exclusive items would be lacking when not buying a pre-order. Is that really something that requires a special notification?
How am I supposed to pre-order when I'm not even being given the choice to? Steam and Epic both got chances, game came to GOG after 1 month and we're already being treated as 2nd class citizens.

GOG have become careless, buying games here has become a sour experience. Missing content and lack of communication are just 2 good examples.

Well, that's the consequence of waiting for a DRM-free release, one that I am perfectly fine with. That's the very point of pre-order bonuses - enticing you into buying when it's not in your best interest, and that's precisely why I think that instead of demanding those bonuses, we should happily ignore them. It's just some worthless digitial items anyway. Pre-ordering digital games is complete nonsense, and fomo-generating digital items are a predatory, anti-consumer practice. Screw that noise.

Lecutter: 18? How can men not make creepy porn style references?
Well i would replace the dragon with a pole dancer Gog-chan on the front page banner and add a full beer mug on both sides of the shield .

GOG Patrons

"It's not a subscription, and it doesn't change how GOG works."

How can they say such blatant lies on that timeline?

A monthly payment is not a subscription?

Restricting voting of what gets to be preserved/prioritized doesn't change how GOG works?

Beyond those points, I found it somewhat comical how Ubisoft was mentioned as the first big publisher to support DRM-free gaming in 2009 given their track record of killing games in recent years.

Happy birthday, GOG! Thank you for all the DRM-free games that we can enjoy thanks to you.

tfishell: Edit: okay, the "Years of GOG" timeline looks like it took a fair amount of work, so thanks to all who made that happen.
Yeah, the timeline is interesting, but it is a little strange that apparently nothing happened around here between 2013 and 2017.

Breja: Sure, controllers for PC exist (I have no idea why, but they do).
In my personal opinion controllers exist for PC purely for bad console ports that don't do M+K controls well. Or games that aren't technically console ports but were obviously designed with controllers primarily in mind and M+K secondarily and poorly implemented. But that is just my opinion.

I knew someone would make some sort of comment about it at some point. It was inevitable.

Yep, that's fair. The Lego games are a good example. But that's exactly the result of that "console-centric thinking" that annoys me.

Yes I agree with your point of view regarding pre orders in general. Unfortunately not everyone can ignore them and move on, especially when a said game is released recently on other platforms.

GOG has been on a streak lately with this sort of thing and it started to burn the last few bridges.

This is unfair. Although I agree that not having the option to pre-order a game on GOG the same way as on Steam is unfortunate, and even annoying, I struggle to see why this would be GOGs fault. The answer why there was no pre-order of Control Resonant at GOG probably lies with Remedy, not GOG. I doubt that Remedy reached out to GOG to allow pre-orders and GOG refused it.

A more probable explanation is that Control Resonant reached acceptable sale targets on Steam already, and the corpos at Remedy gave the green light for a GOG release.

Many publishers (especially the major ones) still treat GOG as a 2nd class store.

I think that GOG didn't even discuss the pre-order thing with Remedy, the person(s) doing the deal probably didn't even know the content existed.

Secondly, I think GOG has been preparing this for a while and instead of listing it as coming soon or pre-order, they "thought" it might make a bigger splash to release it as part of their anniversary celebration.

What else can I say? Good Job GOG, you really know how to throw a party, but the cake is rotten.

I wish GOG a happy and sucessful 18. anniversary and a bright future.
Don't try to imitate other stores, be GOG, the major provider of DRM-free games and offline installers.

By the way why does GOG remove still active promos from the main page whenever there is a big single sale like this one?

Currently these promos are still active but not shown.

I don't follow. What do you mean "not everyone can"? Sure they can. Why not? And if they choose not too, well that's their problem.

If worthless, predatory digital items are so important to you, by all means, go and feed the addiction with DRM-ed, pre-ordered games elsewhere, reward the worst practices the gaming industry has to offer. But spare us the mental gymnastics of framing it like GOG is making you do this.
